• Execution of PoA: The document should be executed on non-judicial stamp paper of appropriate value in the state where it is valid and must be notarised 
• Photographs and Attestation: The PoA should include the agent's photograph, attested by both the executor and the maker. Additionally, signatures of the executants must be attested  
• Signature Requirements: Every page of the PoA must be signed by the executor/maker 

Types of Power of Attorney in India

In India, the Power of Attorney can vary based on the purpose, duration, and extent of authority you need to grant:

• General Power of Attorney (GPA) – A General Power of Attorney gives broad authority to the agent to handle a wide range of matters for the principal. This can include conducting bank transactions, managing property documents, signing agreements, and handling legal or financial responsibilities – essentially covering all affairs the principal is unable to attend to personally. GPA is commonly used when someone is relocating abroad or cannot be physically present to manage ongoing responsibilities. 
• Special Power of Attorney (SPA) – A Special Power of Attorney is much more limited in scope and is tailored for a specific task or transaction. For example, you might grant an agent the authority to represent you in signing a particular property sale deed or completing a one-time legal formality. Unlike a GPA, an SPA expires once the specified task is completed.
