Your Certificate of Insurance (COI) is an important document that serves as proof of a valid Home Loan insurance policy, typically issued at the time of Home Loan disbursal. Whether you are refinancing your property, switching insurance vendors, or simply maintaining your loan documents, having your COI handy is essential. At Bajaj Housing Finance, we make it easy for you to access your insurance details directly through our online platform.

What is a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?

A Certificate of Insurance is the document issued by your insurer, confirming that your Home Loan is covered under a valid insurance policy. This document typically includes:

  • The policy holder’s name
  • The Insurance policy number
  • The property address
  • The sum insured
  • The policy start-and-end-date

Basically, if you have an active insurance policy linked to your Home Loan, the COI acts as official evidence of it. This is often requested by financial institutions, legal authorities, or when you wish to switch lenders and opt for a Home Loan Balance Transfer.

Why You Need a Certificate of Insurance?

While we’ve understood what a Certificate of Insurance is, it is just as important to understand why a Home Loan borrower needs it, or why your Home Loan needs to be insured.

Having the Home Loan insured is a way to protect the borrower and the property, in case unforeseen circumstances lead to non-repayment. Home Loan insurance can safeguard a family’s financial standing, and the mortgaged property, in case of the death of the primary borrower.

You may be asked to produce a Certificate of Insurance for the following reasons:

  • Applying for a Home Loan Balance Transfer
  • Selling or refinancing your property
  • Verifying insurance coverage with a third party
  • Updating your insurance or loan documentation

Having quick access to your COI details ensures transparency and smooth processing of any loan-related services.
